BAE Systems Expands Beowulf Vehicle Production for US Army

BAE Systems has secured additional contracts totaling $68 million to produce 44 more Beowulf Cold Weather All-Terrain Vehicles (CATVs) for the U.S. Army. It builds upon the initial $278 million contract awarded in August 2022, which marked the beginning of full-rate production for these specialized vehicles.

The Beowulf CATV is an unarmored, tracked vehicle designed to operate in extreme conditions, including snow, ice, rock, sand, mud, and swamp terrains. Its versatility makes it suitable for a range of missions, from military operations to humanitarian assistance and disaster response. The vehicle’s modular design allows for rapid configuration to meet various operational needs.

Dean Medland, Vice President of Sustainment & International at BAE Systems, stated,

“The CATV provides a dynamic combination of mobility and flexibility to the U.S. Army, enabling rapid response in all terrains.”

He added that the company is confident in the vehicle’s ability to meet the Army’s future needs.

BAE Systems’ involvement with the U.S. Army’s CATV program began in 2021, with the Beowulf prototype completing primary testing in 2022. The vehicle is part of BAE’s BvS10 family of tracked vehicles, known for their exceptional mobility in challenging environments.

In addition to its work with the U.S. Army, BAE Systems is engaged in programs to supply CATVs to European allies, reflecting the vehicle’s growing international demand.

The Beowulf’s design incorporates proven driveline technologies, ensuring reliability and durability. Its ability to operate in extreme terrains, such as the Arctic, makes it essential for military operations.

The contract highlights BAE Systems’ focus on delivering solutions for modern military needs in challenging environments.
